@wstotler: Well, what he actually SAID was "I think I can see a pinkness to some parts of pictures I take with my Nokton 35/1.2, this is an example. Skin tones mainly.

Skin tones being one of the reds that go pink when WBed for tungsten/halogen without a proper profile.

As a general principle, if there is a WB problem, the WHOLE PICTURE is red (or yellow or whatever). If PARTS of the picture are different (assuming we don't have a mixed light problem), then profiling comes into play.

But - outside of comparing the original quote to your paraphrasing - I don't see any contradiction between your responses and mine. Certainly it is not an IR issue or an IR/UV filter issue.

Would like to mention software for adjustments in CIELAB space: Raw Therapee. It's free. RT offers sliders to shift the a and b channels as well as an adjustable CIELab luminance curve in addition to a standard exposure curve.

Also, I wonder whether this scene is complicated by light of several color temperatures - direct artificial light and objects in deeper shadow illuminated by light reflected off various colored surfaces. In effect, one needs to white balance different sections of the image? ... I sometimes do a white balance on a landscape excluding the sky.

Hi Charles, I think your,"Also, I wonder whether this scene is complicated by light of several color temperatures - direct artificial light and objects in deeper shadow illuminated by light reflected off various colored surfaces. In effect, one needs to white balance different sections of the image? ... I sometimes do a white balance on a landscape excluding the sky," is right on the money though dreaming up ways to deal with it must be one of the conundrums of our interest. B+W would be a cop out! IMO
