spylaw4 Posted October 4, 2011 Share #81 Posted October 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) On the subject of venue, I too voiced 'concerns' about Palermo simply due to the fact that flights weren't daily and I suspected that it would put off potential attendees. I can't attend due to having started a new job and lack of holiday time - if the challenge had been somewhere that one could fly to on a Friday PM and return on Sunday then it wouldn't have been an issue. When considering next years venue please remember where most of the participants will be travelling from, I know we can't please everyone, but a destination that is relatively easy to reach, and can be done within a weekend. I think one of our best attended weekends was Berlin? I also think it's time for a return to London for the 10th challenge, and not just because it suits me well! The first Challenge was later in the year, a very cold dark afternoon I recall. Whilst it's great that the Challenge has continued and grown (day AND night photography!!) I think it's also important to keep it as an event that is primarily fun and sociable, and accessible to as many 'local' forum members as possible. Flights to Palermo are daily James, but if you wnat to travel Friday PM,t that's the problem. One generally has to travel early Friday morning, but there are return flights on the Sunday no problem. So whilst Paris and London and Berlin are all wonderful cities, and deserve their visits (over and over again), I am far more excited about Palermo, would have loved to have gone to Krakow had I been around then, and hope future ones can, at least every other year, be arranged in places not so usually visited. Changi Airport offers the usual choices of food (a Singaporean core competency*) and souvenir shops, nothing to keep one busy for more than one hour. If you are more adventurous, you could offer some chewing-gum to the immigration people (not to be taken seriously...) . As an Ang Mo, you might get out alive.... But as Immigration is so quick& efficient going in/out it's no problem to simply go through "formally". The MRT links to the airport, is speedy, and has a pretty comprehensive coverage. Earlier this year we did a day trip there from KL for some shopping. Stefan, I've got 2.5 hrs at Milan (thanks to a flight time change, was to be 1 hour) on Friday before catching LH3626 at 12:30 - not your Palermo flight by any chance? Actually, I remember a room in Bangkok where I had to fold the bed up to open the door to got to the toilet or leave the room. Cost ws about AU$1.
