General Precautions

Given the choice between watching the latest TV show featuring Paula Abdul or reading the (only slightly) more entertaining X1 instruction manual, I chose the latter.

Under the section entitled "Precautions and care instructions" - For the lens", I saw this bullet-point - - "The generally recommended lens hood also protects the lens from unintentional fingerprints and rain." What "generally recommended" lens hood are they talking about? Did I miss something? Is a lens hood listed on the accessories list next to coffee filters?

Thoughts? Comments? TV show suggestions?

Thanks.

@ Ivan. That is a perfectly reasonable explanation and likely correct.

But, I was hoping for something more conspiratorial...something like; a disgruntled Leica employee is trying to cause mass confusion and hysteria among Leica Forum users. Or perhaps there really is an overpriced official X1 lens hood that can only be purchased if one decodes the serial number on their camera.

Thanks ;)

the ridged ring around the lens itself does screw off, and there is speculation that it was designed that way to accommodate future accessories. maybe an adaptor for filters, hood, wide® angle lens as with the panny lx series? could be interesting times for one's pocketbook.

Have a look to see when the instruction manual was printed. It might have been an early release. There may be a special code. The one to look out for has an ID code of 010411. It may also highlight other developments in store for the X1: lens attachments, etc...;)

Sorry to disappoint you Backpage... but I dont believe in conspiracy theories !

That's why it's called "theory", so you know not to instantly drop to your knees in ritualistic worship and belief. BTW, Hoover didn't believe in those things either until a big one bit him in the butt in 1957.
