mdozier Posted December 31, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did some searching but I couldn't find much in the way of a review of the VS. Any opinions? Some of the pro work I've seen using it is really amazing (they are pros). Is it very forgiving? Does it push? Thanks for any opinions, matt
Advertisement Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Hi mdozier, Take a look here Ektachrome E100VS. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jbl Posted January 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2011 It's one of my favorites and I have an ongoing argument with myself about if I like it more or less than Velvia 50. For my eyes, it's really nice in the reds whereas Velvia feels better to me in the blues and greens. I've only shot a roll or so of RVP100, so I can't offer a good comparison to that. I was in Hawaii in September and split my low-speed slide film between the Ektachrome and the RVP50. The Ektachrome was the easy choice for a crater sunrise. I've never tried pushing it. -jbl
jhild Posted January 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 1, 2011 E100VS is very sharp and has a better colour balance as Velvia 50 . It gives you that extra stop that one may need sometimes. After Velvia was dicontinued for the first time I felt a bit homeless and started trying and what I found out first was that E100VS is very sharp but has a clearly visible grain. I never got back to Velvia when it reappeared because that extra stop was some kind of relaxation to me. As I couldn´t get used to the grain of E100VS in general I tried other film and have ended up with E100G. Besides Provia 100F this seems to be the film for European light conditions. I still want to compare Provia with E100G to see which one is sharper and what the grain is all about. These days the biggest problem is how long a certain film is still available. While it was still there E100GX was my favourite film but that´s gone now. That could happen with any film still available so it´s very likely one has to adjust to a different film again. Cheers Jo
jpattison Posted January 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 1, 2011 I prefer E100G to E100VS. VS= Very Saturated, so the colours are too much for me (I never liked Fuji transparency film for that reason) This is E100G. 35 PA Curtagon on R8...
