Guest flatfour Posted July 12, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2006 I seem to remember a place called Blue Anchor - somewhere near Fraddon? Is that more than 6 miles from Ladock
john_r_smith Posted July 12, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 12, 2006 Anthony - you are spot on. The Blue Anchor is the only public house in Fraddon. You get the Mars Bar John
ptomsu Posted July 13, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 13, 2006 good quality for a Lumix
Guest flatfour Posted July 13, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2006 Peter - Why do you say it is good quality for a Lumix ? I think it has the Vario-Summicron like the Digilux which I read somewhere is the best digital lens of any camera.
john_r_smith Posted July 14, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted July 14, 2006 Hmmmmm . . . should I rise to the bait? Perhaps not, other than to say I have had equally good quality in an A4 size print with my Rolleiflex 2.8F, or my 1925 view camera, or now my Lumix LC1. I've just got hold of an old Hassy 500 C as well, so we'll see what that can do. They're all just cameras really, the most important thing is what you point the little box at. On the other hand, I do have a great deal of sympathy with owners of extremely expensive Leica gear (whether film or digital) who feel somehow betrayed by the Leica branded but Panasonic made point and shoot digicams. If you have paid thousands for just one superb lens, it is hard to accept that a whole camera costing less than half of that is really worthy of respect. I feel exactly the same about Rollei's pathetic digital offerings. And of course the problem with this Internet gallery is that the end result levels quality to the lowest common denominator - by the the time you have scanned and resampled the image to less than 250KB, even the finest 10x8 view camera negative would look the same as a decent shot from a C-Lux1. So we can't really see the difference here between the DMR and an LC1, say, although there must be one. I am perfectly happy to accept that a good A4 print from a Leica M7 and top Leica glass would blow my LC1 into the weeds. In fact, I would be pretty upset if it didn't, because otherwise why pay all that money John
elansprint72 Posted July 14, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good answer. I thought that this was the photo forum, not the tools for the job forum- let the daft equipment arguments be confined to the Customer Forum (which I seldom read) please! Cheers, Pete.
