Hans Roggen Posted January 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well i was fortunate to enjoy exactly three weeks of Leica M8 bliss before it broke down. The shutter cocking motor keeps running every couple of shots. Sometimes it stops when it finally manages to cock the shutter but sometimes the only remedy is to take out the battery. Has anyone come across this problem yet? Regards Hans
Advertisement Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Hi Hans Roggen, Take a look here So, mine broke down too. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted January 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 20, 2007 That's a pity, sounds like a new problem. Presumably, something is slipping in the shutter cocking mechanism and the motor is never switching off because it never reaches the end of its travel. There will be a limit switch which detects when the shutter is fully cocked. I would have expected this limit switch would be monitored by the microprocessor and I am surprised there's no timeout to switch off the motor after a couple of seconds if the shutter cocking process does not complete and put up an error message. Sounds like it needs to go back to Solms...
jamriman Posted January 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 20, 2007 Total bummer. I miss mine back at Solms so much I'm almost tempted to get another one.
Riley Posted January 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 20, 2007 ive heard there is a tendency for the shutter release to feel gritty could it be trapped down occasionaly ?

Nope...it's not releasing. Just trying to cock the shutter. Hans
Riley Posted January 20, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 20, 2007 Im thinking it might be a press metal part, with a rather crude edge thats catching on the surround. Actually pressing on the release might be making it bell out even further. investigate that avenue.... Now I dont suggest you do this, (just so I cant be blamed for anything after) but I have already on my LC1 which had the same fault Observe where it may be catching, it is unlikely to be all the way around, with a narrow jewellers screwdriver (if you dont have a narrow one, make one with a file, and clean up the edges) gently (very gently) insert the blade between the release and the surround and twist gently thus creating some space to free the release
Hans Roggen Posted January 21, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted January 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not going near the shutter with anything. I can't see it catching anywhere. The only thing i can see is the little thingy on the left that mves upwards when the shutter is cocked. When it doesn't cock completely, that thingy keeps coming around.
