click Posted December 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I just had some film break inside the camera. The safe removal was unsuccessful and in the process the spring in the spool came out. Can someone please take a gander inside their M6 and tell me which way the spring goes in. The spring has a wider end and I want to know which end faces which direction? Thank you, Justin

tobey bilek Posted December 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2010 Do you mean the take up spool commonly called the tulip ? Unless you know what you are doing, do not remove it or you may be in the same position yourself. If it comes out that easily, try one way and see if it works. And take care you do not leave any film pieces from around the sprocket holes in the camera. They have a way of getting in the shutter tracks and will cause a problem. The tulip is made to rotate on its base so you can insert film easily. Maybe call Leica or email DAG. In the future, open the back and pull the film backwards. There should be no reason to remove the tulip.
juergen Posted December 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 17, 2010 From what I can tell without taking the spring out of the spool, the wider end is at the bottom of the "tulip". That is probably to keep it in place, so maybe you have to squeeze it in with a little bit of pressure. Good luck Juergen
