Awful color cast in image stabilized Jpegs

Hi Folks,

Tonight I've been playing with various settings with my X1 to find the sweet spot between camera performance (apart from AF speed) and IQ.

So I set the camera to Jpeg Super Fine, Vivid, contrast medium high, sharpness medium low, ISO 1600 and image stabilization ON.

To my surprise, all image stabilized JPEGs got an awful color cast depending on the WB setting I chose. For fluorescent (light bulb icon) I got a green cast. When I changed to AWB, I got an orange cast. Finally I turned the the image stabilization off and set the WB to fluorescent and then I got accurate color.

Because I did not see any report like this before, I was wondering if I have a defective camera or not. It would be great if you guys could try to replicate and post your findings here. Perhaps Leica could incorporate a fix in the next firmware upgrade if this happens with other X1s.

Here are some samples: 1) Image Stabilization off + Fluorescent WB, 2) Image Stab. ON + Fluorescent WB and 3)Image Stab On + AWB

Carlos, as you are rightly concerned about correct white balance, why do you not consider getting a calibrated grey card (WhiBal or ColorChecker)? Then either shoot a reference shot for correction later, or shoot the grey card to set the correct white balance in your X1 FOR THAT LIGHTING SITUATION. Note the last phrase; you need to repeat it if the ariticial lighting changes or you move to a different location. Remember to reset it before shooting in daylight!

Max image quality is low ISO, Ie 200.

Image stab should have nothing to do with WB.

Manually set the WB to the lighting in the room, tungstem or fluorescent. Take a pic

If the screen is off color, then take a raw picture. Get into PS. Then rework the same raw to WB the screen. Bring that into PS Make a selection of the screen and move it over the off color screen. Hold down the shift key and it will drop right over the existing off color. Move tool key shortcut is v .

You can also make two exposures with two WB settings and blend them. A tripod would be necessary.

Arrow keys move layers one pixel at a time.
