snaps Posted December 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am just moving over from an M8.2 and wondering how Lightroom knows (or if it does) which lens you manually pick. Also if you are shooting relatively fast and forget to change the Selection from say 50mm Noctilux 1 to 75mm Summilix 1.4, how can you correct your "mistake"? Is the choice locked into the RAW file? ho_co Posted December 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 13, 2010 Yes, Lightroom has only the information given it by the RAW file. If you manually set one lens but then physically mount a different one, the camera works with the manually-entered setting. But using Lightroom and other software products, you can compensate to get the result you want. Lightroom is getting more sophisticated with each new iteration, so it's doubtful you would need to go to, for example, Photoshop to do any correction. Generally speaking, I doubt there would be much difference in practice, particularly between the lenses you mention, which probably have similar vignetting properties. Some people on the forum even say they get better results from one or another of their lenses by intentionally entering a "wrong" setting manually. And don't worry about it: You won't be the only one who has made the mistake.
