R5 - should I repair before selling?

Some advice and perspective, please.

In addition to a very nice SL2 that I inherited from my Dad, I also have an R5 that I'm thinking about selling. As film cameras go, the SL2 works perfectly and really is all that I need -- I love the SL2 and probably will never sell it. However, I rarely use the R5 and it spends most of its time idle.

While operational, the R5 does need some work. It clearly needs a CLA because all of the seals have deteriorated and the focusing screen is scratched. More problematic is the frame counter -- it functions on an intermittent basis and only seems to work properly about every 9th or 10th roll. While the frame counter problem doesn't really prevent the camera from being used or taking good pictures, it is an annoyance.

With R5s in very good condition selling retail only for around $400-$500 US, I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of either the CLA or the needed repairs to the frame counter -- I fear the repairs might cost more than the camera is worth. Yet, without these repairs, I'm doubtful I can sell the camera for anything like a reasonable price.

I know many folks here buy and sell used equipment a lot ... any thoughts about this dilemma? I hate for this otherwise fine camera to be idle when it could be enjoyed by another photographer.

check completed listings on ebay for the average selling price of the R5 in good

condition. subtract the priceof a new screen, get an estimate for cla and subtract

the two from the estimated selling price and let the buyer worry about bringing it

back. he may be able to do some of the work, may have a screen, may just want

a door or a dial but it's his problem.
