DigiLux3 and R-lenses

I traded my DigiLux2 because of software issues, later completely rectified, and chance to get the 3 with interchangeability with R-lenses.

I am finding the focus clarity less than perfect. Any suggestions or comments by anyone else using R-lenses appreciated. My "R" is a 250mm Telyt.

I would think with that length of lens, a tripod is a must... but I'm sure you knew that.

I haven't tried the adapter R glass on the D3 but I get the sense that the screen is going to be your main compositional tool. The unfortunate thing about the VF on the D3 is that it is dark.

Danke schoen. One additional question. I was at my daughter's horse show with the camera. A professional photograper said that the 250mm R-lens, with a 4X3 aspect ratio, is actually a 375mm lens. Perhaps this affects the clarity by making the tripod even more necessary. I will try that as well as using the screen for focus.

I use my D3 with a Leica adapter & R glass. If you search the Forum under D3 or Digilux 3 you will find the name of an after market ground glass that improves the brightness considerably. I have used one on a friend's D3. I don't need it, as I use a Summilux 50 or a Summilux 80 on my D3 & there's always plenty of light. The D3 frame proportion is very pleasing to me, as it's the same proportion as using my A16 film back on my Hasselblads. It's also very similar to the frame proportion of the S2.

The best thing to be sure about the capability of the Telyt is to put the camera on a tripod AND use live view magnification in order to check for the focus.

The subject must be close enough in order to avoid other problems.

I use the Telyt 250 f:4 along with many other lenses, all of them work fine on 4/3 bodies IF you are able to focus them correctly. Don't rely on the D3's focus confirmation too much, it can be quite unreliable in many circumstances and your camera could need a new calibration too.

Anyway, I found much easier to focus with the Olympus E-3 than with Digilux 3.
