kjohn Posted December 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently I received notification from Amazon that they had a time frame for delivery of this case (Feb-Mar 2011!!), but then this morning they sent an email that it would be shipping out today. It looks like there are a few vendors who have it instock now (item #18723) on Amazon.

kjohn Posted December 13, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted December 13, 2010 Sorry for the delay. Still unpacking from the move. Anyhow, I've attached some quick pics so you can see what I'm talking about. The Good: It's a fine looking case. It isn't made of the same type of leather as the old one. It's more of a matte finish. The logo is slightly different than the old one. The hardware is chrome instead of brass. They're still handmade, but the quality has improved. I had to go through six D-Lux 4 cases before I could find one that didn't have dented or misaligned rivets. This one is pretty close to spot on. The bad news: I think it's even bigger(!) than before. There is extra cushion on the left side (where the bottom of the camera sits) so that when you slide it in, it can only go in one way. I guess it's a feature? The even worse news: There isn't a wrist strap anymore. I used to get annoyed that it dangled. Now Leica doesn't give us one. And the neck strap (from the camera) is ridiculous looking as it is, but now unusable. Now the debate... Should I keep it? I've always found the case kind of bulky in general, but it seems to be the best solution out there. I guess I need to find a complementing wrist strap Welcome, dear visitor! jjonsalt Posted December 13, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 13, 2010 I'm disappointed the case is not what one would think being at that price level and all. I would not expect the case (even more expensive) for the camera with a grip attached (which I have) to be of better material and design. So, even when the case to fit my camera becomes available I believe I'll just continue to use the National Geographic case I have been. The hardware is said to be brass and it's padded all around. Thanks for the report.
MPJMP Posted December 13, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm guessing that the pad is removeable so that the camera can be inserted with the hand grip attached??
jjonsalt Posted December 14, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 14, 2010 Sure doesn't look like it would fit regardless.
