pico Posted December 9, 2010 Share #21 Posted December 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just for the record, jet aircraft pressurization is excess pressure bled off the engine turbines - the same pressure that is already pushing you along at 600 mph. There is not much "cost" to it any more than there is a "cost" to redirecting excess car engine heat to warm your toes while driving in winter. There is cost. For one, the aircraft is heavier when pressurized. Also, the incoming air must be cooled via an inter-cooler or the cargo (passengers) will be toasted. I've flown in Air Force aircraft where the pressurization was so low that even healthy young men became drowsy. I suppose that was good when shipping them overseas, sitting backwards low to the deck. LeicaBraz Posted December 9, 2010 Share #22 Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks! I take something like 10 transatlantic flights a year. I've found that red wine betters the air, the pressure and the sleeping conditions. Sometimes even makes the attendants look pretty (the females, I mean).
