gar1013 Posted December 3, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted December 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering what people are thinking about the battery life, and what they do to prolong it (turn off the camera frequently, leave it on, etc). Â I recently picked up a second battery, but find myself wondering if I should pick up a third (at minimum). Â Any chance that firmware v2.0 will have some sort of improved power management to extend the battery life?
Advertisement Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Hi gar1013, Take a look here How's your battery life?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RockyIII Posted December 4, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted December 4, 2010 I mess around with my camera so much that I cannot really tell you how many photos I can take with a fresh battery. I have it set for auto power off in two minutes (default setting), but sometimes I wonder if it takes more electricity to frequently retract and extend the lens than it would to set it to five or 10 minutes and leave everything on. Â Maybe it doesn't use a lot of electricity, but I wish there was a way to keep that obnoxious green light from staying on when the external viewfinder setting is turned on. I don't need a light to remind me that I am using an external viewfinder. Â Rocky
ChiILX1 Posted December 4, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted December 4, 2010 I use a viewfinder and my battery life is superb. I have a second battery but barely ever need to whip it out. Make sure your LCD is off, use the viewfinder, and hopefully 2.0 won't have constant, obsessive aperture adjustment in between shots.
damnsharp Posted December 4, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted December 4, 2010 Until now, after shooting aprox. 3400 pictures I don't need a second battery. The life is good. How long? I need to check it. When I know, I will report it.
Guest badbob Posted December 10, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted December 10, 2010 I got about one thousand shots on a single battery once, shooting bursts, during a lightning storm. Despite the near-constant ON of the LCD, because it was night the screen was actually dark most of the time, and that must have been the factor in getting that many shots. Â On normal walking around, taking about 100 or so shots in 3 to 4 hours, I use up a full charge. I always carry one extra battery, and I think it would be foolish not to have one extra battery, unless it's not important to have the camera available at all times when it's with you. Â Okay, that seems to be in line with what I was getting. For some reason I feel like it should be better, but hopefully firmware v2.0 will offer improved power management. Â The battery life was even worse on firmware v0.76 (what I was using at the X1 Akademie)
phancj Posted December 12, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted December 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do not use a VF, and get about 200+ shots per full charge.
Mr_Jones Posted December 12, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted December 12, 2010 I have just taken 240 shots over 3 days in different light conditions, with and without a viewfinder and the x1 still reports a full charge, this includes reviewing photos etc. However when shooting 50 or so shots within a couple of hours during that three days it showed less battery power remaining, although this was mysteriously recovered. It was very cold when it reported less battery power.
grober Posted December 20, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted December 20, 2010 Battery life is the least of my problems with, of course, the primary one being the extreme slowness of the camera. Slow to focus; slow to release the shutter; slow to transfer files to/from memory; Leica slow to release new firmware -- the list goes on. Â As a result of the camera's severe lethargy, I don't take that many photos with the device. I have a second battery but have yet to need it on a "normal" day of shooting a dozen of so shots. Â The X1 is not a joy to use unlike most of my prior Leica-M cameras. Â -g

Ease of use, image quality, small and light, and able to take a couple hundred images handheld in an afternoon of shooting in the park - what could be better? petewayne Posted December 23, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted December 23, 2010 No problems with battery life.......was out the other night using the moonlight to soft box some landscapes. X1 was on the tripod for several hours as I waded through the snow in temperatures of -15....... I think it fared better than me
Guest badbob Posted December 23, 2010 Share #13  Posted December 23, 2010 Two words say it all: shutter lag. I rest my case.-g  I just tested mine - zero lag (less than 1/10 second anyway). Once focused there is no lag. So, I guess that makes the case "unrested", unless it's rested as zero lag.
