So it seems "film" is a better name for "non-digial" (and i am not recommending that !!), which is wher ethis all started...

maybe there should be a developers/darkroom forum that discusses both wet & digital darkroom issues.

so my vote would be :

Barnack;s Bar - remain the same

developers/darkroom forum: Darkroom dicussions : wet or digital (latter to be broken out if needed)

digital forum: leica digital camera

film forum: leica film camera

collectors & historical: remain the same

photo forum (s) remain the same

member meetings forum

As you can see i am not saying "more boxes" i am saying "fewer boxes" or properly "named boxes"

for example there are issues on the R10 in customer and digital forums, same with DMR, same with M8.

customer forum as a name doesn;t say what it is - Digial and film are so clear, customer is just a hang over from the older forum

Richard,

I have a great deal of sympathy with you on this issue; it seems to me that the principle reason for splitting the site into separate forums is so that the users do not have to wade through the dreadful wordy treacle of things which hold no interest whatever for them. Case in point being the digital forum which has become a bit of a nightmare since the premature launch of the M8 (did we not have a dedicated M8 forum at one time)? Why did that disappear?.

The difficulty is, no matter how few (or many) ways one slices one's pie there will always be folks who do not fit. Consider the case of the (surely mythical) chap who invests a small fortune in M system equipment, yet who has no further involvement in his photos after pressing the shutter release. He does not develop the film, he does not make prints of his images, he does not scan the film to show his (now digitised) master-works to a waiting (digital) internet world and yet; he still feels qualified to make a valid contibution and give sound advice to those who are slightly more involved with the creative modern-day process; of course this gives ample opportunity for him to blame others if the shot is a clunker. Where should this unfortunate fellow (or girl), if such a creature exists, post his/her contribution? Customer, film, digital, photo.......?

Perhaps it is time to consider a complete split between the talk-photo factions the photo-posting folks and to place a limit of 20 words accompanying any photo (this way we get no list of excuses from crap-shots).

Amen to that!:p

Call me old fashioned, but I am stuck in the past...The Old Forum...now; THAT was heaven!:D

Well, at least it hasn't got to the stage of bookshops ('black writing', 'gay authors', etc...we'll have 'red-haired authors' next...just mix 'em all up and give us some surprises!), or CD shops (where they ran out of categories so that anything they can't understand is called 'world music'...where's the 'alien music', or the 'intergalactic music'?). Too much of this categorisation leads to a deadening loss of serendipity...
