rsolomon Posted January 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) are there to many forums..... Barnack;s Bar customer forum: digital forum: film forum collectors & historical photo forum (s) member meetings forum my confusion is with the customer and film forums, i realize the customer forum was the orginal forum, however it may not make sense anymore. should the name of film forum should be changed to analoge forum ? What is the role now of the customer forum ? The others make sense to me and fit into categories. for example if i have a comment/question about R9 would i use the customer forum or the film forum ? if i have a question on a R lens would i use customer forum ? should there be a lens forum ? a little confusing
Advertisement Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Hi rsolomon, Take a look here are there one to many...i'm a little confused. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lambroving Posted January 19, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2007 Both your questions belong on the Customer Forum. Others are confused. You could use the Customer Forum for questions on the DMR, but it would be more likely read by DMR users on the Digital Forum. Is that clear? BTW, people who prefer conventional and silver-based photography dislike the term "analogue". It's digital capture that's synthethic.
andybarton Posted January 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2007 Barnack's Bar - the place for general OT chit chat, about censorship, CO2 and trains, at the moment customer forum - general queries relating to Leica, customer stuff digital forum - dominated by M8 at the moment, but also the place to raise queries re DMR, Digiluxes and other digital Leicas film forum - the place to discuss film, developing, wet printing and so on collectors & historical - a place to show off the fact that you have just bought a Leica I in a car boot sale for £20 (etc ) photo forum (s) - the place to share your best shots with the forum members member meetings forum - the place for moderators to arrange to meet other forum members so that they can buy the mod a drink for the members giving the moda hard time (Only kidding ). Several meetings amongst members have been arranged through this section, to the benefit of all who engage
rob_x2004 Posted January 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2007 Richard it is all very straightforward. You do not seem to have an M35Lux listed in your spares list. Buy it now from GIFTSIX and the day it arrives we shall both be in the right place in collectors & historical.
square_one Posted January 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 19, 2007 This latest 'mix' seems fine except: It is a pain to keep up with the photo posts via sub-catagories - or use 'New Posts' which brings in DIGITAL and buries quick access to all new photo submissions. I often just give up under the weight of posts. Might the whole PHOTOS forum be called up to save us the busy-ness of sub-foruming (except when we want to)? Just a thought, not saying kill the subforums, which are a quite logical 'sort' if one only cares for, say, sporty cars. :•)) Bruce

It's digital capture that's synthethic. I believe that the first recorded version of this argument was from a cave painter around 2500 B.C. who saw his first drawing on papyrus. Pete. stunsworth Posted January 20, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 20, 2007 BTW, people who prefer conventional and silver-based photography dislike the term "analogue". It's digital capture that's synthethic. William, your quote seems to imply that there's something 'synthetic' about the reference to 'analogue', would you care to ellaborate for those of us who use both media? It might also be useful for you to let people know the full extent of experience of digital photography.
lambroving Posted January 20, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 20, 2007 Steve, I'm not into debating, particularly with you. If you want to cross swords on this topic, I suggest you try Brent, Ron or Dan who make their livings full-time with digital capture and who are in agreement with me. Unlike some, we have not quite yet gone blind. You might want to try Marc Andrew Williams and John Mead too while you are at it.
imported_peter_m Posted January 20, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 20, 2007 I agree with William on this, Its a label the digital guys gave the photographers using film Peter
andybarton Posted January 20, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 20, 2007 BTW, people who prefer conventional and silver-based photography dislike the term "analogue". It's digital capture that's synthethic. Which term do you prefer, William? Perhaps we should consult Fox Talbot or Daguerre for advice? Frankly, it's not something getting worked up over, IMHO. Surely, it would be better to use whichever recording medium you prefer and get out taking photographs, rather than invite a "discussion" about it. Sun's out! stunsworth Posted January 20, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 20, 2007 Actually William I agree that analogue is a clumsy term and prefer film myself. It's the constant digs at digital that I find tedious. As Andy says, the sun is out and I have a new toy to play with!

Guest Metroman Posted January 20, 2007 Share #18 Posted January 20, 2007 I prefer 'filum' Maybe they could have kept the M8 forum open longer as the issues with that are dominating the Digital Forum and if you don't visit everyday stuff does get buried. I missed the stuff about the D2 sensor fix by Leica but fortunately someone PM'd me so I could read up.
square_one Posted January 20, 2007 Share #19 Posted January 20, 2007 Simplify! Barnack's Bar because Oskar is there. Pho-tography Forum for the anal(logue)-obsessive sentimentalists. Faux-tography Forum for unprincipled filmers who scan because they can. Neo-tography Forum for electrically-positive people with no patience. Sick of being catagorized, everybody will then visit the all-inclusive Phorn-no Forum to fruitlessly search for Maria. Nothin to it! Bruce
