jlindstrom Posted November 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just purchased a minty 50 summilux pre-asph. The lens seems to be working fine on my M8, but there is one strange thing that caught my eye.. I can turn the focus ring way past the minimum focus distance of 0.7M. It turns almost as much as my 21mm zm used to and that lens has minimum focus distance of 0.5M. Is this normal? At the infinity end it stops right at the infinity mark. All my other lenses stop bang on at the 0.7M mark.. If this is something to be worried about, does anybody have a clue on what the problem could be? see attached image as for the minimum focus distance. //Juha
Advertisement Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Hi jlindstrom, Take a look here 50 Summilux pre-asph problem?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gravastar Posted November 30, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2010 When I used to own one of these lenses, if I remember correctly mine was the same. I think the lens will focus to less than 0.7metres but the rangefinder coupling wheel in the camera will only stay engaged over the range infinity to 0.7 metres (or slightly less, it varies depending on the camera). Hence the minimum distance marked on the lens. So there's no problem. Bob.

bocaburger Posted November 30, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 30, 2010 Not a single one of my Leica lenses stops right on the close-focus marking. They all go a little further.

smkoush Posted November 30, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 30, 2010 I have a black paint pre-ASPH that goes past 0.7, exactly as shown in the picture of the OP. I don't see any problem. Savvas
