drdannn Posted November 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Searched the M8 instructions and can't find anything: Here's the question.... In the menu there is a category for , " ISO Setup". Under that menu, there is a sub menu for two items... 1. MAX ISO . This I clearly understand. 2. Slowest Speed. Can't get this one. It seems to me that I would be telling the camera not to shoot slower than one of the shutter speeds I select. I have tried this and nothing happens. There is also a choice for " Lens Dependent", so I just leave the setting there. Can anybody tell me what the "Slowest Speed" function is, and how to apply it ??? Thanks !!! Slowest speed has - as far as i understand - to do with the automatic shutter mode.
marknorton Posted November 28, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2010 These options are for Auto ISO mode where the automatic exposure adjusts not just the shutter speed but also the camera ISO to achieve the correct exposure. They allow you to specify when the camera starts adjusting ISO instead of shutter speed and how far it can raise the ISO as an alternative to reducing the shutter speed. The options are not used for manual exposure. As the light level falls, the camera will first adjust the shutter speed down to a slower speed. When the user-defined shutter speed limit is reached, the camera then increases the ISO up to the maximum ISO limit. Finally, if the light falls still further, the shutter speed is reduced some more with the ISO "stuck" at the highest level the user has selected. [The lens dependent setting reflects the fact you can use a slower shutter speed with a wide angle lens than a telephoto before camera share begins to be noticeable. The camera uses the lens code to determine the focal length and sets to the slowest shutter speed according to the focal length, typically 1/<focal length>, so 1/50 second for a 50mm lens]. Thank you !!! You should have written the instruction booklet:). I have tried it and I totally understand now. Also I note that when setting the low shutter speed, and the camera cannot take the image at that speed, the LED light blinks at ANY speed below the desired shutter speed. So again, thanks very much. Dan Not sure when you bought your M8 or how old it is but there has been many changes to the cameras firmware that give the user more option then what was included when the camera was first produced. Not sure if Leica ever updated the manual to reflect these firmware changes.
ho_co Posted November 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2010 Dan-- Leica's instructions for the Auto ISO functions are in the manual for the M8.2, available for download at Leica Camera AG - Downloads. The M8 gained the same functionality at about the same time the M8.2 appeared, but as Ed said, the online M8 manual wasn't updated.
