click Posted November 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Howdy, My M6 needs some service because of focus issues and my frame lines don't show up properly with the corresponding lenses. Should I get the lenses CLA'd also or just the rangefinder?
Advertisement Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hi click, Take a look here Do I need to have my M6 and lenses CLA'd or just the Camera?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jacarape Posted November 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2010 I'd guess that is impossible to know. How old are teh lenses? Did you ever have focus issues with them? Can you afford it? Are they cloudy or dusty, Would you rather spend the money on good wine?
click Posted November 25, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted November 25, 2010 One is a 1967 Summicron Dual Range that appears to be perfectly clean glass, every part of it is perfect, I also have a 24mm Elmarit that I bought new in 1998 also in perfect shape despite the fact that I carry it almost everywhere I go without a UV filter. My camera is having focus issues and my pictures are no longer reliably clear. I probably just need my rangefinder adjusted as my camera has seen use almost daily for twelve years. Do lenses need regular maintenance? Even if they appear to work perfectly? Does the DR summicron require alignment periodically since it's a specialized lens? Thank you, Click
budrichard Posted November 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2010 If you have no problem with a lens then a CLA is a waste of time and money. I have an original 50mm DR with nothing done to it. At a Leica 'Clean and Check' Day about 20 years ago the tech examined it and said no problem.-Dick
