(with a bracket solution) I guess you refer to the "vanity" of a large flash on a small camera. When one needs the light, they need the light. There is no way a smaller flash can do what a larger flash can do. For example, a group shot at a class reunion bouncing off a 15' ceiling. phancj Posted June 22, 2011 Share #22 Posted June 22, 2011 Maybe I can add something to this, fwiw... having had so much fun with the X1 and a refreshing break from lugging around a DSLR with heavy primes, and having seen my wife for the first time actually being interested in a camera I decided to buy here her first digital camera. I then went to do some research plus some forum members here were so helpful with posting comparison shots...my conclusion was the IQ difference is very slight but IMO existent. The shadow regions for the dlux5 appears better than the LX5 but you really have to look at it closely. What I did was to pass the comparison samples around my photog friends without labeling the photos and some could spot the difference very quickly.Could be slight FW differences coz even the menus are different anyway. I know the tests arent scientific by any measure so I decided to bring my wife to the camera store, and had the salesperson show her the lx5. She looked unimpressed, but the moment the dlux5 was brought out, her eyes lit up. It was worth every extra cent buying her the camera and she is enjoying the camera so much. I know looks arent important but honestly speaking I think a very considerable advantage of a camera like the dlux5 has over the lx5 is the tactile and visual feel that makes the owner actually WANT to use it.
