JeTexas Posted December 8, 2010 Share #41 Â Posted December 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finished the shortened adapter tubes. Still waiting on the square hoods. The tracking number just gives me an estimation of Dec. 19. Â Leica X1 with adapter tube and lens hood by ffacker, on Flickr
Advertisement Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hi JeTexas, Take a look here X-1 lens hood from SK Grimes. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ChiILX1 Posted December 10, 2010 Share #42 Â Posted December 10, 2010 It looks great! Will probably look even better with a square hood. Is there any way to get the end of the hood closer to the lens? Seems like it sticks out a lot compared to the glass to end-of-hood setups of the M's
ChiILX1 Posted December 10, 2010 Share #43 Â Posted December 10, 2010 ... to answer my own question- then filters wouldn't fit on it right? Unless filters had a further extension of the adapter to get in front of the lens. Or perhaps because this hood wasn't the right thread and you had to add an adapter in between, the square hoods won't stick out so far?
JeTexas Posted December 11, 2010 Share #44 Â Posted December 11, 2010 I haven't seen the square hoods in person yet. Theoretically they won't stick out as far because they don't need that extra 5mm wide step-down ring in there to make them fit, but until I get them, I'm not sure how it will actually look and fit. ChiILX1 Posted December 11, 2010 Share #47 Â Posted December 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pretty sharp setup here... this shallow lens hood works well on the X1: Â Leica X1 CUSTOM | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Â I found it here on Zeiss's website: Â https://photo-shop.zeiss.com/en/Products/1365-665 Â Is this the right thread for Texas's adapter? Â And what's the latest from the custom one from Grimes? I'd like to see what that setup looks like.
brucek Posted December 11, 2010 Author Share #48 Â Posted December 11, 2010 And what's the latest from the custom one from Grimes? I'd like to see what that setup looks like. Â They have my camera but so far I haven't received a quote from them on the cost, or when it might be available. As soon as I hear from them I will post an update. ChiILX1 Posted December 11, 2010 Share #49 Â Posted December 11, 2010 Just FYI I sent a flickrmail to the person in Japan who posted the picture of the X1 with the hood. I asked where I can bit the pieces for it. He had to use the translator, but this was his response: Hello, Â This food is not sold by the one made by oneself. Â It made it by oneself with the food of Carl Zeiss and the lid of the spray can. Â Thank you
JeTexas Posted December 11, 2010 Share #50 Â Posted December 11, 2010 Hahaha! I took a look at the Carl Zeiss hood, and it looks to be some kind of clip on, not threaded, so I don't think it would work with one of my adapter tubes unless I just cut off the clamp part and bonded it directly to the tube. Â If the Japanese guy used a plastic spray paint lid to made his adapter tube, that would explain why he covered it in vinyl -- although it looks nice. NZDavid Posted December 14, 2010 Share #51 Â Posted December 14, 2010 A shame it didn't come with one. A built-in sliding hood like some of the M lens would be great -- I wonder if it would be technically feasible?

Bo_Lorentzen Posted December 15, 2010 Share #55 Â Posted December 15, 2010 lambda, Â Very clean, nicely looking package and I like the filter installed, very safe for the lens. Â I have been going the back way also but using my 3D printer to manufacture hoods to my personal taste. ;-) Â BoPhoto.com: M8 - Zeiss 28 Biogon hood - Keep it tight ! Â . Guest Posted December 15, 2010 Share #56  Posted December 15, 2010 Quick question--did you purchase this from SK Grimes or did you make it yourself?  it´s self made, seems you like it:) it´s a adaper from fotolinsen.de 8400 for nikon, i take a 49mm filter and press it inside.you have to abrade the filter, so it fits stong . i add some stickers and an old rubber band cost´s round about 20,-euros..... Bo_Lorentzen Posted December 15, 2010 Share #58 Â Posted December 15, 2010 lambda, Â You did a really nice work there, I love seeing people get a good idea and then pull it of as nicely as you did, it looks like what Leica "should" offer or ship with the X1 in the firs place.! Bill Allsopp Posted December 16, 2010 Share #60 Â Posted December 16, 2010 $2000 glorified P&S and Leica does not offer a lens shade for it. The target market is clearly not photograpgers. No perhaps it's like the D-Lux 5 and handles contra jour damn well.
