jafleming3 Posted November 20, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted November 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I asked and received a response from Lensmate - they will not produce the adapter and hood for the X1 (not enough interest to justify the economic cost of making them). Â That's bad news. I'd really like the option of macro photography. Someone has posted here and other sites how to make one's own adapter and macro lens, but I don't think I'm up to it. For one, I don't have a broken zoom lens lying around. Is there a more workable solution? Wouldn't it be wonderful if Leica would make such a device for it's camera... Â cheers, Â john
Advertisement Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Hi jafleming3, Take a look here Lensmate Adapter and Hood for X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted November 20, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted November 20, 2010 I'll let you know in a couple of days, I'm trying the extension tube with a raynox 250. Â All in it's about $75. Hopefully the tube will get here before I send off my x1.
RockyIII Posted November 20, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted November 20, 2010 Bummer. I was looking forward to the Lensmate adapter and hood. Â Rocky
ChiILX1 Posted November 20, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted November 20, 2010 It would seem completely crazy that Leica would make the threads on the body of the lens with zero purpose... Â Isn't there some apposite analogy for such a possibility? Â Anyway... Leica must have a lens hood coming for less than $500.

ChiILX1 Posted November 20, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted November 20, 2010 True- but pg 127 of your manual mentions the "generally recommended lens hood" so something is coming right?

Isn't there some apposite analogy for such a possibility?  Anyway... Leica must have a lens hood coming for less than $500.  I asked about this at the X1 Akademie in LA. The answer was basically that they put the threads on there, fully intending to develop accessories for them, but then the engineers either move or or image quality tests fail to meet their standards, etc.  The same standards that produce a fine camera therefore result in a screening process that's hard to make it through. We were told that some of the best Leica accessories are made by 3rd parties though.

Sausalito Posted November 28, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted November 28, 2010 True- but pg 127 of your manual mentions the "generally recommended lens hood" so something is coming right? Â As I read that ( I'm going to assume you are reading the English version also), I think the Hood word was just a poor translation and they really mean "lens CAP" Â Really, really hope I'm wrong, though... The Spanish version translates as "cover", but I don't have a working knowledge of photography Spanish (aka that could be what hood is called). I don't want to dig out my manuals and the Deutsch isn't online- what does it say?

h00ligan Posted November 28, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted November 28, 2010 I received my nikon adaptor and used it with the macro add-on,focus distance is lowered to three inches, results are good but there's vignetting. Â I'll post a sample later, the light wasn't great for it before.
