Lensmate Adapter and Hood for X1

I asked and received a response from Lensmate - they will not produce the adapter and hood for the X1 (not enough interest to justify the economic cost of making them).

That's bad news. I'd really like the option of macro photography. Someone has posted here and other sites how to make one's own adapter and macro lens, but I don't think I'm up to it. For one, I don't have a broken zoom lens lying around. Is there a more workable solution? Wouldn't it be wonderful if Leica would make such a device for it's camera...

cheers,

john

It would seem completely crazy that Leica would make the threads on the body of the lens with zero purpose...

Isn't there some apposite analogy for such a possibility?

Anyway... Leica must have a lens hood coming for less than $500.

I asked about this at the X1 Akademie in LA. The answer was basically that they put the threads on there, fully intending to develop accessories for them, but then the engineers either move or or image quality tests fail to meet their standards, etc.

The same standards that produce a fine camera therefore result in a screening process that's hard to make it through. We were told that some of the best Leica accessories are made by 3rd parties though. :)

No doubt like the thumbs up. So then, is anyone aware of a hood that has the same threads as the x1?

True- but pg 127 of your manual mentions the "generally recommended lens hood" so something is coming right?

As I read that ( I'm going to assume you are reading the English version also), I think the Hood word was just a poor translation and they really mean "lens CAP"

Really, really hope I'm wrong, though...

Each one of us has 3 manuals for a total of, I believe, 7 languages. The Spanish version translates as "cover", but I don't have a working knowledge of photography Spanish (aka that could be what hood is called). I don't want to dig out my manuals and the Deutsch isn't online- what does it say?

I'm travelling and only have the pdf of the english, but in reading other Leica descriptions I think I have seen them call "lens hoods" a "lens shade" (maybe or maybe not exclusively... others here know a lot more about Leica than I do)..

I'm STILL hoping I'm wrong :)

I received my nikon adaptor and used it with the macro add-on,focus distance is lowered to three inches, results are good but there's vignetting.

I'll post a sample later, the light wasn't great for it before.

Which adaptor did you get? Do you have a link?
