Lightroom 3 - General Tweaks

Recommended Posts

Sharpening and maybe noise reduction but other then that I can't think of any you would want to make to every image as a general rule and even sharpening and NR is subjective . That's the beauty of working with RAW image data. You can tweak each image to your liking, as needed.

Now if you were to shoot under controlled lighting and with a predefined white balance and then found that white balance to be slight off then you would need to make the same adjustments to that group of images. Which can be done in LR.

Well as has been suggested, mostly it's down to your individual taste - it's very unlikely that there's one dose of medicine for every shot. The Presets are often a useful starting point - the 'Punch' one is a good standby for 'flat' images, but not always. I've just come across a third party plug-in that enables the fading of various presets to further fine tune your adjustments. Looks to be useful and maybe something that will be integrated within Lr in due course. I've also recently been finding the Lens Correction options useful in 'fixing squint buildings' in certain architectural type shots.

Speaking of which, are there are users out there who've created Lens Profiles for the various Leica (or Panaleica) models? The Lens Profile downloads available from Adobe for either line seems very limited.

To get back to the question - keep trying as many of the controls and presets as you can, there are loads of adjustments that can be made to achieve either the 'look' you want, or to recapture the scene your eye saw - and all without destroying the original file. Good luck.

I'm new to LR3, and shoot with the d-lux5. Are there any general tweaks made with Lightroom 3, to the RAW file that will in most cases be made time after time.

Try color checker passport to create camera profile. It can give this extra to your images.
