Advertisement Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Hi albertknappmd, Take a look here S2 in antarctic. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
paulmoore Posted November 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2010 will be going in january with S2, 35mm, 70mm and 180mm. Appreciate advice on clothes and GLOVES needed.. will also bring M8 but wary of using it outdoors..Albert:) I would take 2 options for the gloves..1. thin tight fitting hunting gloves with a muff to bury your hands in when not shooting. 2. military style shooting mitts with thumb and index fingers separate, these usually come with wool liners as well. I think using your index fingers and thumbs would be fine for handling the S2.. sounds like the perfect trip for the camera.
devils-advocate Posted November 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2010 Your main concern will be keeping your hands dry during landings. Take waterproof gloves (those rugged orange jobbies that trashmen use work perfectly - i bought some in Port Stanley once for just his purpose). You will leave these where you land to pickup when you go back to the boat. On shore, a pair of liner gloves is often enough. Antarctica in the summer is just not that cold. I just carried a pile of those. Maybe add a wind glove over top if it's breezy. - N. ps. and do take your M. albertknappmd Posted November 21, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted November 21, 2010 thank you both! I am definitely taking the M8s and agree wholeheartedly that cameras are made to be used and not cuddled... Will stay warm and hopefully will return with a fair number of keepers!:D:D
