For me, the D-Lux 4 is a compact, carry-along, ready-anytime camera. There are times when a lens hood would be advisable, but it would be just another thing to slow down the use of the camera, so I've never bothered. Any lens attachments impair the compact ever-ready nature of a precision compact. Normally I always use lens hoods, but never on a small compact.
