FON Posted November 24, 2010 Share #21 Posted November 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) You'll get as many opinions on this as there are people. What I did a few years back was get an M6 classic (non-TTL) and a 35 Summicron. I spent at least half a year with just that camera-lens combo and shot six rolls of film per week on average. It would probably be easier for you starting off to have a camera with a meter in it. If you would rather use a hand-held meter or if the LEDs annoys you as they do some people, simply take the battery out and use it as a meterless camera. The M6 would probably be the easiest to use starting off. Exactly my choice. 5D Mark II shooter who recently converted to film..
Advertisement Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hi FON, Take a look here Willing to buy a Leica M series ... which one?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jacarape Posted November 25, 2010 Share #22 Posted November 25, 2010 The best of the M series is the MP, you read it on the internet so it must be true. There wil never be a "Digital Perfection", or an "Electronic Perfection", so get the only Perfect Camera made in the history of photography. Then you can start to save up for the others. Tongue in cheek, but it's what I have. After every camera ever made by L is mentioned as each one has it's fans and detractors, the answer will be 42. Xmas Posted November 25, 2010 Share #23 Posted November 25, 2010 The best of the M series is the MP, ... but it's what I have, the answer will be 42. The most expensive M is probably the MP The cheapest is indeed the 42 i.e. the M4-2 The M4-2 is the ugly sister to the Cinderella pretty ones so no one buys i - hence cheap But If you are on a budget and you only want to take photos an early series M4-2 has the best viewfinder and the simplest rangefinder adjustments, it is the cheapest by 10%, allowing for condition. It does not have a built in meter but that is one less thing to go wrong. I use M2s not M4-2 not that poor, don't like ugly sister. Noel
andym911 Posted November 25, 2010 Share #24 Posted November 25, 2010 whatever you buy the final image will be exactly the same...so if price is important go for the cheapest, if not go for the more expensive. BTW the best M is the M2;) ANDY
Xmas Posted November 25, 2010 Share #25 Posted November 25, 2010 The M2 is the third least expensive, if you get an early one without a self times it is the simplest M, simple means more reliable. The brass gears are smooth as silk, even in an unworn collector. Noel
