wda Posted January 3, 2011 Share #21 Posted January 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, but that is not the problem. When working for a wire service, and moving images through out the day, you move them right after you shoot them, if you wait to long, they are no longer news they are history. So, at this time, I am keeping the leica grip and will have to make sure that I always have a coin with me to unscrew the grip. I guess a small price to pay for such a nice camera. I have the Leica grip and applied a tip learned here recently. Unscrew the locking wheel just sufficiently to allow the grip to swivel and expose the battery door. Unlock it and remove the memory card. When finished, reverse the process. No need for a coin nor complete removal of the grip. Very quick and very easy. Once again, thanks to the original reporter of this novel hint. It saves time and aggravation!
Advertisement Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Hi wda, Take a look here D-Lux 5 Grip in every day use . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rivergull Posted January 17, 2011 Share #22 Posted January 17, 2011 Better off just buying the Panasonic LX5 with built in grip. IMHO. Grip or no grip... will the LX5 hold its value in the long run? The older D-Lux 4 is selling on Amazon today for $969.95... vs the Panasonic LX3 currently selling at $350.
jjonsalt Posted January 18, 2011 Share #23 Posted January 18, 2011 The older D-Lux 4 is selling on Amazon today for $969.95... A lot of things on Amazon are way over priced...doesn't mean they are worth it or will sell. If anyone needs a grip for a D-Lux 4 this may be of interest. vagabond262 Posted March 16, 2011 Share #24 Posted March 16, 2011 I absolutely agree with this. I didn't like the appearance of the Leica grip and debated whether to buy that or the Franiec alternative. Went for the Leica and have loved it ever since. Feels like a different camera; much more secure and easy to shoot. Just the peace of mind that it isn't going to slip out of my hands is worth it's weight in gold. Expensive thought it is, I highly recommend the original Leica grip.
Solar B Posted March 16, 2011 Share #25 Posted March 16, 2011 This is why i love these forums ... there is just so much info out there ... just like the Astronomy ones i used to frequent ... I use the Leica grip on my D-lux 4 and think its the bizz to , i do not think you would need to use a coin to tigthen it as i believe it can be fixed securely enough using your thumb ... the grip "just" makes the camera large enough for me to hold comfortably, and having a half leather case im sure would make it even more tactile, as with most things its the accessories that can make all the difference. RT_NEY Posted April 12, 2011 Share #26 Posted April 12, 2011 I can unscrew the grip off in 1 second. What's the big deal? The X1, yes takes some time...but not a big deal. Look how long it takes you to change a tire on a car.

Fang Posted April 13, 2011 Share #28 Posted April 13, 2011 From the photo, it looks like the D-Lux5 with the Richard Franiec grip can fit into the original Leica leather case. While if you use the Leica grip you have to buy a different case ? However, can someone confirm this for me ? Thanks

Contacted Ricard Franciec himself and he informed me that the DLux5 with the Richard Franiec grip will fit the vertical classic case with the flap. Sent him photos of my case. he confirmed it. So I have ordered mine. Thanks.
