Advertisement Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Hi Bundestrainer, Take a look here Nikkor 85/1.4 replacement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted November 12, 2010 Share #22 Posted November 12, 2010 Without putting words in their mouths, I think Artichoke and innerimager said the Summilux was sharp wide-open (and it is). I don't think they said it was "as sharp wide-open as the Summicron" - and IMHO it isn't, quite. As to the 75 Summilux and landscapes - I don't do many landscapes. But here is an attempt (@ f/8 or so) - two cropped details and the whole image. Welcome, dear visitor! twittle Posted November 12, 2010 Share #23 Posted November 12, 2010 Without putting words in their mouths, I think Artichoke and innerimager said the Summilux was sharp wide-open (and it is). I don't think they said it was "as sharp wide-open as the Summicron" - and IMHO it isn't, quite. It looks to me like they were both comparing the Summilux to the Nikkor, not the Summicron. Both said it was sharper wide open than the Nikkor.

tobey bilek Posted November 14, 2010 Share #26 Posted November 14, 2010 75 Lux is not sharp to 2.5. At 4.0 is is APO quality and will knock your socks off. 75 Cron is better at 2.0. All the tele ( as opposed to long focus) design lenses for Leica RF go a little soft in close range including 90 2.0 AA and 90 2.8 Elmarit last version. If close range is important to you, get the 90 4.0 collapsible current. It is within a hair of being APO, but only 4.0. The other 90 is the 90 2.8 with detachable head for the viso or you can use it RF coupled. It stays sharp in close range. The ones that are soft close up do not improve by stopping down, they stay soft. I use several of mine for portraits for that reason.
Bundestrainer Posted November 14, 2010 Author Share #27 Posted November 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) @ adan: Looks very sharp to me. Thank you. @ tobey bilek: I'd like to use the lens mainly (but not exclusively) for portraiture. I think it would be necessary to shoot at least at F2 or F2.8. If you think the cron is sharper at F2 than the lux, I should probably go with the cron. However, I tend to prefer the look of the photos taken with the summilux. Difficult decision. What are you implying with your words "75 Lux is not sharp to 2.5. At 4.0 is is APO quality and will knock your socks off." Do you find the rendering of the lux nicer than the 75 Cron? Bundestrainer Posted November 21, 2010 Author Share #28 Posted November 21, 2010 I bought the 75 Lux and took my first shots yesterday. I like the rendering of the Lux. Thank you everybody for your advice.
