roguewave Posted November 15, 2010 Share #21 Posted November 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Martha, yes you can send all the lenses to Leica for coding. You can also send them to DAG (Don Goldberg). He has worked on several of my lenses an is one of the best. He may also be A LOT CHEAPER than Leica. Also, there are kits to code most of the lenses yourself. In fact, if you search in the Forum under "coding M8 lens" you find lots of very good instruction & information about the process, as well as the IR cut filter filters that are required to get the most out of your kit. Welcome aboard and hope you have lots of fun with you M8. BTW, I don't use a cover. Truth is, as you are already a rangefiner shooter with your film Leica, I also think it's best to shoot & not disturb the flow, once you make a few test shots. It matters little if you ever do get a scratch that would effect the ability to review yoyr images. The screen is not in any way a good reference for what is being captured in the RAW file & the resolution is far too low to make critical judgements. Good luck & enjoy. Try this thread about the coding. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/45375-m-coder-kit.html

marknorton Posted November 16, 2010 Share #22 Posted November 16, 2010 It's completely pointless adding a screen protector to the sapphire glass on the M8.2/M8u. My two M8u's are showing no wear whatsoever on the cover glass which is also optically much better compared to the feeble M9 effort, none of the blooming you see on the M9. It's a pity Leica elected not to do the same with the M9, the M9Ti shows it's perfectly possible to use a sapphire glass on the M9 but for whatever reason, it's not available on the "cooking" M9, even as an option. My M9 "glass" is not wearing well and replacing the plastic involves replacing the rear shell of the camera.
Doc Henry Posted November 16, 2010 Share #23 Posted November 16, 2010 Hi Mark, I agree with you not to put film on a M8.2 However, the film that I put on the M8 and M9 always gives a nice picture, and moreover I have not to pay attention every time I use the cameras and when I put in the camera bag. Mark, I had a question on this thread * . Your opinion? Thank you Henry * http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/80260-anatomy-leica-m8s-power-consumption-4.html
