IR filter for new M8.2

Hi: I have a chance to buy a brand new M 8.2 (never used) from a local dealer at a reasonably good price (especially after some trade ins.) I have three questions for you all:

.Did I dream this or has Leica been giving away an IR filter for new M8's and 8.2's?

.If so, would that apply to this new M8.2, even though they have discontinued the line?

.Also, if so, how does one go about the transaction? (That is, does the dealer give it to one or does the purchaser have to send away to Solms or New Jersey?)

Thanks in advance for any insight any of you might have.

All the best, martha

If the camera is new and unregistered and you are the first owner, I would expect you to still get the two free filters from Leica, even though the camera has been discontinued.

I have not checked Leica's website for this before this posting, but one used to gain access to an ordering screen (for size, black or silver rim) after registering the camera. The filters arrived in due course.

If the camera is brand new and has never been registered with Leica, you will be asked to select the sizes of your two free UV/IR-Cut filters when you register the camera on the Leica web site. Do make sure that you choose both though, (They can both be the same.) as you can't choose one, and then go back later to choose the second. Depending upon availability, they might take a while to arrive. Although now that the M9 has removed the rush for these filters, stocks should be more plentiful.

I wish you well, and much joy from your new camera. :)

Thanks so much, Brian and Nicole. Although I will be sad to say goodbye to my trusty and faithful M3 and M6, it's really, truly time to move on. I'll be keeping my superb Leica glass, so the transition should be relatively painless (especially since I've been a Canon and Nikon digitizer for some years now.)

Again, thanks for your replies to my query.

The camera doesn't have to be brand new.. I purchased a 2nd hand M8 (classic if you will) that had been used by the previous owner for over a year. Turned out he hadn't registered the camera.. so I registered it and then proceeded to order the 2 free filters. It took Leica about 2 weeks to deliver the filters.

OT warning:

I also had the "jesus stripe" problem with the camera and got it repaired in Solms at the dealers cost. Following that repair, they also did full CLA and RF adjustment AND gave me a full 1 year factory warranty for the whole camera :)

So, a 2nd hand M8 can be a very lucrative deal. Mine only had 170 shots in the counter when I purchased it for less than half the price of new unit!!
