Which wide-angle update

Many thanks to all of you who gave your valuable advice to the question I posed recently 'whether to go 24mm or 21mm wide angle lens? I had mentioned that I was presently number 1 on the list at my local dealer for the 50mm Summilux but was considering cancelling for one of the wider lenses as they may be better suited to my style of work.

I therefore had opinions coming in from you guys on three fronts - 21, 24 & 50mm - all had great arguments for each of these superb lenses. My decision was finally made this weekend after going to my local dealer and testing their Tri Elmar. The viewfinder was easy to get used to and I simply loved the super wide angled view. I even considered purchasing that lens but wondered how often I would use the 16 and 18mm setting.

I have therefore made my choice - firstly I notified my dealer, cancelling the 50mm Lux (I can hear half the Leica world inhaling deeply). I then weighed up the pros and cons for both wide angles and finally came up with the 21mm Elmarit as my chosen lens

More threads on this forum led me to buy a second hand (mint condition) Zeiss 21mm viewfinder and then finally I bid on a Buy It Now on (hopefully) a nearly mint condition 21mm Elmarit lens. I am now eagerly awaiting it's arrival!

My thanks once again to all those who contribute to these highly valuable threads.

Regards John

Congratulations! The Elmarit 21mm has been one of my all time favorites. Only substituted and improved by the Aspherical version.

In any case I would still stay on the LUX 50 list. On the M9 it is a magical lens.

congrats, john! you won't be disappointed with your purchase at all if you like the look and feel of shooting wide. it's a personal choice but the 21 focal length is a very versatile lens on the m9 and one that i would certainly not be without in my kit. here's to looking out for some of your results here in the near future
