I ordered it this morning the 27 inch model with quad core processor, should be here tomorrow, I hope I'm going to enjoy it. I also ordered PSCS5 an upgrade from my CS3.

Congratulations! :) I'm sure that you will enjoy it. A Mac is such a pleasure to use after Windows. Things just work on a Mac. :)

OK got the imac this morning, I must say that the screen is a bit like a mirror but I'll probably get used to it.

Installed PSCS5 which seemed to go without a hitch, except that I could not find it, Bridge appeared on the bit at the bottom but no photoshop. Now when I try to open it it gives me a message that some of the application bits are missing and ask to reinstall. after the reinstall which is very short I still get the same message. Any ideas?

Jeff, open finder - it's equivalent to file manager. You'll see an entry on the left that says 'applications'. Click on that and you'll see all the installed applications. Can you see Adobe Photoshop?

When you did the upgrade the installer should have asked you for the serial number of the version being upgraded. Did you see that, and if so was the number you entered for a Mac version of CS3?

Normally :)

If you are having trouble with reflections, you may need to adjust task lighting in your room. I have mine illuminating the wall behind the Mac, but spilling out onto the keyboard area.

The Photoshop application will be in the Applications folder, inside a folder called Adobe Photoshop. You can drag the icon of the Application from there onto your "Dock" (the bit at the bottom), so that it is easy to find next time. You can also set it to start automatically every time you start your Mac.

I would do a complete reinstall of PS from the cd. I expect that there is an option for a "Clean install" or something similar.

Andy, the point I was making was that if you have a Mac version of the CS5 upgrade it will only update a previous version if that too is for a Mac. In other words you can't upgrade directly from Windows CS3 to Mac CS5. However if that's the case I would have expected the upgrade to have terminated.

The installation went normally accpeting all the serial numbers with that little green tick.

I opened PS once and that was Ok but then quit PS and it just disappeared, not even in the apps folder, now it seems to be back and just comes up with the error message.

Presumably I can unistall it?

You can, I asked adobe UK and they assured me that nowadays the software is set up to do cross platform upgrade. It accepted the serial number from my windows CS CD.

You need to right-click on the icon in the Dock when an application is running and check the "Keep in dock" option.

Underneath the Apple menu icon the very top left, there is a "Recent Items" drop down. That will allow you to open PS easily in the meantime.

Like I said earlier, you will need to give it a week to get used to the differences from what you have been used to. It will be second nature befiore you know it, partly because Apple spend a fortune on human interface research.

Do they? see above

Normally Yes. :o After reading your later messages though, it looks as though it's OK now, and the dock problem might have been a part of the short learning curve. (At least I hope that's all it is. :) )

Hi Jeff

I am one of the many who made the switch to Mac three years ago and endorse all of the positive comments made by others here. The Mac is a very easy, intuitive system to use, you wont go far wrong learning by exploring, and you will be very happy with your decision.

Even so, I found it helpful to have a small, simple guide to the main features, such as Scott Kelby's The Mac OSX Leopard Book. This book keeps it light -- one page per topic with illustrations -- and has some helpful tips including features which are less obvious. You can just dip into the chapter you want and in a few pages see how to get your task done.

There are other and later books that do the same thing. Kelby's is just the one I use.

All seems to be OK now, I configured the mouse to right click, which being a Windows user I find very useful, and got the PS icon to stay in the dock ala Andy's advice. Now I'm copying my photgraphs from my portable hard disk to the new imac. I'm not sure that I like the menu bar permanently across the top of the screen, the Windows system of a menu bar in the application window seems to make more sense to me.

I also like to know about my folder structure and that seem to be hidden in the finder, so at the moment I prefer Windows explorer.

It's there by default. The icon for 'finder' by the way is on the far left hand side of the task bar on the bottom of the screen.

One of the first things I did when I got my mac was change the size of the icons on the task bar - or 'dock' to give it it's proper name. To do that, click on the apple at the top left of the screen and select system preferences, then select 'Dock'. You can then adjust the appearance of the Dock.
