Advertisement Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Hi stiltzkin, Take a look here How can I get information about a Leica serial number?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jc_braconi Posted October 31, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2010 Use the sticky thread just on top of this forum http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/80354-looking-cameras-lens-year-issue.html
stiltzkin Posted October 31, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted October 31, 2010 Thanks. Simple mistake not seeing that thread =) I ended up not buying the camera. The seller said it was a former Luftwaffe camera. Nothing spoke against it. Just for curiosity, is there a way to tell if it was delivered to the German forces? diser Posted October 31, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2010 Yes, there were many IIIb Leica cameras engraved for the (by the) Luftwaffe. Unfortunately there are a lot of fakes too. You'd have to inspect camera photos closely. Most fakes though do have German Eagle emblem or swastika, or some other weird stuff on them. The original cameras for Luftwaffe had this king engraving - Leica IIIb (Mod G) Luftwaffen Eigentum without an emblem.
stiltzkin Posted October 31, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted October 31, 2010 I'm no expert but after reading everything I could find on how to spot fake one I could not spot anything wrong with it. The auction is over and the pictures are gone. A shame, it went for $550 AUD. Short listing.
