iek1968 Posted October 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) (I meant Dlux 5 owners) Hi I posted this also at dpreview, I am leaving for a photo trip and would like to know the following: i can hear the OIS running at mode 1 and of course see the effect on the lcd. At mode 2, i can't hear it and there is no stabilising effect to be seen, do u experince the same? Is mode 2 a meaningless setting or is there a firmware bug that prevents mode 2 to work properly? thanx for your time!
Advertisement Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Hi iek1968, Take a look here D-Lux owners, pls check OIS mode 2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted October 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2010 Mode 2 only activates the stabilizer for the actual shot, maximizing its effectiveness. The live view image isn’t stabilized. So what you have been observing is just what the OIS is supposed to do in mode 2.
iek1968 Posted October 26, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted October 26, 2010 good info thanx i thought that i would see the effect when i'd half-press the button, it must be a very fast ois then on mode 2, how on earth do they handle inertia so fast? i need to do some tests to see if mode 2 is as effective as mode 1 thanx again greetings
juergen Posted October 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 26, 2010 Maybe this article helps to explain the function? Juergen

I just checked with my D-Lux 3. Same behaviour. Juergen
iek1968 Posted October 26, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted October 26, 2010 Thanx for the article Juergen, I think I get it now, but this must be a lightning fast OIS to overcome inertia and be ready at the split second u press the shutter button. I 'll stick to mode 2 then for my trip to save battery and acc. to the article to get sharper pics. greetings
