Lee filter system for M series rangefinders

Hi,

has anyone used or have any comments about the Lee filter system for use with M series

cameras?

I'm interested in this to.

At the youtube page of Robert White (camera shop in UK) they show the LEE RF 75 system for rangefinders.

Its a smaller system, only thing besides the size is a ruler at the front of the holder so you can see where the center of the lens is, and decide where to put the grad ND filters. But this will always be a try and error method.

This rules is an option for the standard 100 LEE system, so basically only the size is the difference.

For Pola filters they recommend the LEE's because you can take the holder with filter off to see the effect it gives. With the screw pola's this is impossible, or you should use the leica pola.

The thing I would like to know, my leica 18mm SE takes 77mm filters, my slr kit (with I use more and more for landscape) takes max 72mm. So the 75 LEE filters isn't big enough. Therefore I was looking at the 100 LEE.

But all my other M lenses take much smaller filters (39mm).

Is it possible to put the LEE 100 system on a leica M with small lens? Does it work a bit or is this totally unpractical. Does it block the viewfinder?

Is that how you are supposed to use the Lee polfilter? I think you can peek through the viewfinder and see a corner. Then it rotates separately from the holder. (I don't have the polarizer, though.)

One forum member said he could stick his 77mm round filters in the RF75 holder. I have the 75mm holder, and was also thinking about the 100mm holder because it can hold 4mm thick filters, and I think that's the only way to get a 5-6 stop ND for a holder. So would also like to know if it blocks the viewfinder; I guess you can just measure and find out.

If you type "Lee Filter" into the search function, you'll find a number of past threads on this subject.

lots of threads, but not a lot of info

Yes it rotates separately from the holder being a circular polar filter. I don't know if the pola is big enough for the viewfinder to look trough it and see the result. The tip from robert white is to take the holder with the C pola in it off the camera, and just looking trough it when turning the filter to get the amount of effect you want, and than replace it onto the camera.

I didn't knew the 75 system doesn't take 4mm filters. Good to know :)
