holmes Posted October 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very little is written by forum members about this great lens. It was the first Leica lens to have electrical contacts. I have had mine for over a year and find it to be a great help given the focal range it covers. It is pure Leica in its build, all metal, very solid. It's has a rotating tripod collar and a relatively short throw range for focus. It weights in at about 4 1/2 pounds and has a sliding lens hood. Because of the weight Leica applied two neck strap holders, on the lens, to reduce the weight of the the lens on the lens mount. So you have a neck strap for camera and one for the lens. It may sound complicated, it's not. The lens strap provides a very good platform when hand holding for shots. My Canon 200 f 1.8 USM L has the same configuration. Another very good Leica lens, to me, is my 250 f 4.2. Easily hand holdable again with a short focusing throw. I know there are those who will say Leica 100 APO f 2.8 macro and the 280 F2.8 APO. You are fortunate with deep pockets. Being retired the depth of my pockets depends on the US government. But I digress, if, you should happen to see a 105-280 f 4, check it out. Putts had nothing but god stuff to say about it.
