A word of praise for London Camera Exchange

Just a quick word of praise for London Camera Exchange in Guildford. Ok, I have put substantial funds their way over the years, but they provide a good, informed service and, unusually in this day and age for a high street shop keep a good range of secondhand equipment. Although they occasionally have sales (usually 20% off for a limited time) you can always haggle. In the past few weeks I bought my IIIc and RD-1 there, both secondhand, and both knocked down.

Anyway, the point of this particular ramble is this. I picked up a Summitar from eBay a couple of weeks ago. It came capless. Not a problem for the rear, but a pain for the front, hence my recent post on the subject. I wandered into LCE today with camera and lens and found the assistant who had sold me the camera. I asked if they might have anything that would fit. He was genuinely interested in the lens and chatted with me about it for a while before disappearing into the back of the shop. He returned with a plain black plastic push-on cap, no doubt originally intended for binoculars or the like, and charged me precisely nothing.

Good service costs nothing. I'll be back.

Regards,

Bill

Oh, and by the way, there was a Digilux 1 in there for £199...

And you left it there?

:)

Plastic caps cost beggar all, but return their investment time and again.

I have always had good service at LCE too.

Unless they are Leica lens caps that is!

Nice to hear of good, helpful service. [OT: We've got a local jeweller like that. "Lost earing retainer clip madam? Have this one from our odds and ends box - no charge. Safety chain snagged off at one end from your watch strap madam? It'll just take a moment - no charge." We'll be back there too. (Hugh Rice in Hull if anyone is passing through!)]
