Snakepottery Posted October 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am trying to get a bit more flexibility in my printing and have configured my R2400 to work (after a lot of effort) on my NAS drive which has a USP printer port and uses Bonjour to connect. Whilst it works but only when using the Gutenprint drivers, the image density is pretty washed out. I suspect I can tweak some settings to correct that so I'm not too concerned about that at the moment, but I do wonder if this is the right way to go. The other downside is that you can't use any of the printer utilities like ink levels or head clean etc. The problem is that I don't want the R2400 in the front room where my Mac is but in the office. The only connectivity is viw Ethernet. I could of course drill a hole through the wall and put in a USB cable to the printer in the office. The R2400 is a few years old now but I like it also, looking on the net, it appears that neithr Canon, Epson or HP makew a decent Photo inkjet with a network interface. Curious? Anyway, any thoughts, advice, should I give up and just keep it on the desk in the front room etc would be most gratefully recieved! Andy
Advertisement Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Hi Snakepottery, Take a look here Epson R2400 on print server. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Marquinius Posted October 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 16, 2010 Andy, I looked into this option also, but found exactly the same issues you're describing. I'm almost certain that this is just not for the R2400. I'd stick with USB. Marco
Snakepottery Posted October 16, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted October 16, 2010 Must be something particular about inkjets as compared to LaserJets. I think I read somewhere that Lasers have a lot more built in intelligence compared to the inkjet. Not sure if that's the case or not. A shame, it would be good in manufacturers of high end inkjets made them network ready as they are more likely to be used in a professional environment. Well, I shall battle on for a bit then drill a big hole through the wall and run a USB lead in!! Thanks Andy
