Shootist Posted October 21, 2010 Author Share #61  Posted October 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) As I promissed in a previous post here are the user interface screens from the LX5. I'll have to make 3 or 4 post to get them all in.  Look I am happy for everyone that has this camera, whether Leica or Panasonic. I have owned almost every M ever made and still own a M8 with a ton of lenses. Just stop trying to rain on my parade just because you bought the Leica version of the same camera. ho_co Posted October 21, 2010 Share #63 Â Posted October 21, 2010 Hey, here's a question for you D-Lux 5 owners: Â Does it really write DNGs? Â I keep hearing that it does, but can't find it in print. Â Thanks!
ho_co Posted October 21, 2010 Share #64 Â Posted October 21, 2010 Ed-- What's a Viera Link? (Setup page 6 in your menu shots)
Shootist Posted October 21, 2010 Author Share #65 Â Posted October 21, 2010 Ed--What's a Viera Link? (Setup page 6 in your menu shots) Â I asked that same question when I first saw/read it. It is to connect with and use the remote control of a Panasonic TV equipped with viera link to control the camera in I guess playback mode for images or video. Shootist Posted October 21, 2010 Author Share #66 Â Posted October 21, 2010 Hey, here's a question for you D-Lux 5 owners:Â Does it really write DNGs? Â I keep hearing that it does, but can't find it in print. Â Thanks! Â And the real question is, If it does write the file as a DNG file extension, does it create a XMP sidecar file for it when editing it. Â If it does create a sidecar XMP then it really isn't a true DNG file. Â This question has been asked here at least 3 times, in 3 different threads, and on other forums with no replies. ho_co Posted October 21, 2010 Share #67 Â Posted October 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Response from another thread: Â I checked and the D-Lux 5 saves the raw files as .RWLÂ This may just be re-named DNG files as on the LX5 but I haven't had a chance to check. BB W Posted October 25, 2010 Share #68 Â Posted October 25, 2010 I convert my LX5 RAW files to DNG in Lightroom, that's it. It's as easy as pie, as they say.
jmooney Posted October 27, 2010 Share #69 Â Posted October 27, 2010 Just ordered my LX-5 from Amazon (I'm finally moving away from film I'll never sell my IIIa though) thanks in part to this thread. I would love the DLUX because I'm an Red Dot fanboy but with two little kids, the fact that I already have Lightroom, and I have RA and the slippery surface of the DLUX would mean a lot of dropping because somedays my hands don't work so well. Â I'm a huge proponent of the square format so in two days time it'll be 1:1 B&W JPEGs for me. Â Can't wait! Â Jim
Shootist Posted October 27, 2010 Author Share #70 Â Posted October 27, 2010 I guess no one with a DL5 wants to post the record and setup menus from the Leica version. Â OK.
algrove Posted December 30, 2010 Share #71  Posted December 30, 2010 I guess no one with a DL5 wants to post the record and setup menus from the Leica version. OK.  I recently posted a reply on the M9 thread under EVF for M9?... Got blown away and was referred here to see the BIG differences between the 2 fives. I am still convinced there are none after getting this far into the thread.  Today the L costs $800 and the P costs $400. Today the L-EVF costs $385 and the P-EVF costs $132. (Is there firmware in the EVF or to make it function in order to justify an extra $250?)  I love my M9, but get this P or L becomes a nice alternative/backup or whatever you want to make it.  3 years warranty costs maybe $100, most of us have LR and as someone said you can get it for $90.  If the P-EVF fits the L, you have just been given a $250 gift for other "stuff" P or L.  I want to know if the firmware is REALLY different too. Come on post it!  P.S.- Since my family liked the P LX5 so much I decided to try the GF1 with M adapter for my Leica glass (including an old Hector) and voila I have a real backup camera (or is it now another primary with the extra Leica/Panasonic lenses I've now got like the 20/1.7 pancake (great for street hip shots), 7-14, 14-150 and once it's released-the Panasonic 100-300). Mr_Jones Posted January 1, 2011 Share #72 Â Posted January 1, 2011 There is one option missing from the Leica menu, that is the conversion option. Some of the options have slightly different names.
richfx Posted January 1, 2011 Share #73 Â Posted January 1, 2011 After owning the D-Lux 3 and D-Lux 4, I decide to upgrade to the Panny LX5 rather than the D-Lux 5 for several reasons - (1) I don't need LR; (2) Panny makes the D-Lux 5 for Leica, for goodness' sake; and (3) the built-in grip will save time and effort when removing memory cards and battery (a pain to me with the D-Lux 4's grip). Since I'll be shooting RAW when using it, the alleged IQ / engine differences with jpegs (that I'm not entirely convinced exist) won't matter. There's no right or wrong choice here to me - I don't think it's a serious enough purchase to get lathered up over. Whatever floats one's boat.
