daviidwilson Posted November 9, 2010 Share #25 Posted November 9, 2010 Sparkie, Here's two! Not sure what models they are though, the vintage Leicas are like greek to me haha...but must say their build quality appears exquisite...and very nice to look at! Much as I like Leica as a brand their vintage models in the display look so much more robust than their model digital counterparts....those old models look like tanks/ parts of submarines! Humood Posted November 9, 2010 Share #26 Posted November 9, 2010 With the popularity of the vintage cameras I think they're all sold out. The proprietor probably sold every last one for a high high price. Spoke to a leica dealer and they told me many from the PRC are shopping in Singapore for M9, and are paying a S$2,000 premium to get ahead in the waiting line for pre-orders. This was in Feb this year but I suppose the M9 is now readily available so less of this. Even the X1 is sold out at the moment, as are all the 35 and 50 lux and cron. I was all psyched up for the M9 then and they said no lenses, and no definite date of delivery either. This is consistent with all the dealers I called up. The M9 is available though, they suggested I buy the camera first. Told them what the heck for? To look at it while the warranty passes me by? Yeah, I called them to ask if they had any lenses, for a brand new Leica Store I was shocked when the guy on the other side said "sorry we don't have any lenses"!! I was willing to fly to singapore to get the lenses. ended up buying my Summarits from B&H they arrived lst week!
phancj Posted November 10, 2010 Author Share #27 Posted November 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yeah, I called them to ask if they had any lenses, for a brand new Leica Store I was shocked when the guy on the other side said "sorry we don't have any lenses"!! I was willing to fly to singapore to get the lenses. ended up buying my Summarits from B&H they arrived lst week! Thought they had the summarits, and the 28 cron. The lux all out, and the crons only 28. Apparently most lenses were sold out on launch day! Frankly much as I like their service, I wouldnt fly here to buy anything. Prices are so much more than elsewhere. If not for the fact that I stay here......but the store is manned by topnotch nice people willing to help, not the most knowledgeable but very friendly. They took the trouble to call me when the 50 lux arrived, now I am waiting to try the 35 cron when it comes before i make the decision. But yes, there's tons of rich people who may/may not use the Leicas but will buy them anyway, hence the shortage. Thats my honest opinion...
