The new Leica boutique in Raffles Hotel, Singapore. Cool shop with attentive and helpful staff and Leica cameras to try out. Nice gallery of prints and vintage cameras too.

Taken with the X1.

you take photos of the cabinet(s) with vintage gear?

Yes, I did. I will post some if you like. They were displaying vintage models with new ones like the M9. Quite cool to see the old Leicas in mint condition.:D

Sparkie,

Here's two! Not sure what models they are though, the vintage Leicas are like greek to me haha...but must say their build quality appears exquisite...and very nice to look at!

The bottom one looks like a IIIg, but they need to find a copy which isn't beaten up like that one (not hard, there are hundreds around in mint condition).

And they need to know how to set the speed setting dials... ;)

Yeah,I was gonna say its an atrocious example.

In a shop like that I'd expect to see a mint to mint- M3, M2+Leicavit MP, M4, some black paints. And some real exotic lenses. I'm reasonable, not even asking for the super rare vintage stuff

With the popularity of the vintage cameras I think they're all sold out. The proprietor probably sold every last one for a high high price. Spoke to a leica dealer and they told me many from the PRC are shopping in Singapore for M9, and are paying a S$2,000 premium to get ahead in the waiting line for pre-orders. This was in Feb this year but I suppose the M9 is now readily available so less of this.

Even the X1 is sold out at the moment, as are all the 35 and 50 lux and cron.

I was all psyched up for the M9 then and they said no lenses, and no definite date of delivery either. This is consistent with all the dealers I called up. The M9 is available though, they suggested I buy the camera first. Told them what the heck for? To look at it while the warranty passes me by?

All they have to do is find decent examples and put a "Not for sale" card in front of them.

On the other hand, the implication could be that, even after a 50 year life-time of working hard, your Leica will still work and still look like a decent camera. Not sure if that's true anymore, but that's the implication.

I dunno Andy these days Leica digitals still look tough but nowhere near the older film cameras. The old ones look pretty indestructible to me:p

In fact i was contemplating getting a M7 new instead of the M9 but thinking of old days of using film no instant gratification lack of competent labs nah...
