KevinA Posted November 23, 2010 Share #41 Posted November 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can understand a professional yearning for an S2 for a specific job, but unless those jobs are his bread and butter (and caviar ) I suppose that renting will be the way to go. In that sense Leica can probably do best by prioritizing the rental market.. But: the projected sales are quite modest at about 1000 a year (Mr. Daniel, 2009) and it can make no difference to Leica whether the buyer is professional or amateur, maybe better amateur, as that throws less strain on the after-sales support. Let's face it, the professional market is small in all sections of the photographic world, even if the gear is suited / designed for professional use. For marketing purposes it is great to see professionals use your camera, but when it comes to generating turnover, the guy to target is the amateur buyer. Yes to that. The amateur buyer only needs to want one, for making money you want to need one. Kevin.

wattsy Posted November 24, 2010 Share #42 Posted November 24, 2010 maybe better amateur, as that throws less strain on the after-sales support. There are amateurs and there are Leica-owning amateurs. The latter ("my lens has a flake of paint missing from the inside of the lens cap", "I'm wondering if Leica have been packing the lenses the wrong way up in the box") are, I imagine, in a league of their own when it comes to creating "strain".
