Constable Posted October 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone tried using pocket wizards with the S2 for off-camera flash? I just discovered I couldn't get my Ring flashes (Sigma and Nikon) to behave with the S2 and with the 120 macro, the SF58 has significant shadow issues (and I want side lighting in the field anyway). bjdejong Posted October 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 8, 2010 I have good experiences with a minitt1 on a M9; I guess it should be no different for a S2 Cheers, Barend Jan
dfarkas Posted October 8, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 8, 2010 Pocket Wizards work perfectly on the S2. I've used the FlexTT1 as a trigger on the camera and FlexTT5 as a remote with an SF58 in the top shoe and it works great for getting the flash off the camera. You must use the Pocket Wizard software utility to put them in basic trigger mode first and the flash loses TTL control, so you will have to use M and set exposure and flash level accordingly. Regarding your shadow issue with the SF58, you may want to remove your lens shade, as it is probably casting a shadow on the bottom of the frame. Constable Posted October 8, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted October 8, 2010 Thanks Barend and David, David ... the problem isn't the hood, it is the usual problem with top-mounted flash and insect-type macro in the field ... the lens and/or other crap gets in the light path. By FlexTT1 do you mean MiniTT1-Canon? I'm going to have another go at getting the sigma ring-flash to play ...... but I think the pocket wizard is the solution- Thanks again Welcome, dear visitor! I'm going to have another go at getting the sigma ring-flash to play ...... but I think the pocket wizard is the solution- Thanks again I have used the ray flash ring flash on the SF-58 as an on-camera flash and have had mixed results as well but it could be because I am still learning the SF-58 which I find quite powerful on the S2 even though I turn down the EV by 1 stop on the flash. For off-camera, I have been able to use the Plus II consistently although I needed a hot shoe to mini-phone adapter for the SF-58. Cannot use the SU-800 but can use the SB-900 with this combination as well.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! tag62 Posted December 6, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 6, 2010 A small question please. Does the Pocket wizard work with the S2 as a 25meter plus shutter release as well? I am trying to sort one out for very long distance outside Thank you
Jeffacme Posted December 6, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 6, 2010 I really like the Profoto Air Sync modules. If you don't own the pocket wizards yet they are worth a look as well.
