proenca Posted October 29, 2010 Share #61 Posted October 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) i have a lot of issues with the m8, i would never get one. here are some that come to mind: I'm sorry, bunch of bollock$ Lenny. It always amazes me how people can say such harsh words about products they know absolutly jack of ( in terms of personal experience ) , just by reading on forums , blogs or auto intitulated photo web reviewers that suffer from severe ego problems. I'm sorry I got the M8 on the day it came out, and used it almost everyday until May, time when I got an M9. Used it for landscapes, portraits, on the sun, winter, sea, desert.. was used and abused and it had its quirks. Now issues and rubbish its hard words. Sure sucked that you had to use IR filters - but after you bought them and put them on the lens what was the big deal ? One thing was a problem - high ISO's. But if you stick with the camera for long, you learned how to make the best out of high iso's. 640 was top, 1000 with lots of care and lots of variables. These images were made with my M8 and I see nothing wrong with it - apart from my lack of photographic skills. Sure, it had LOTS of problems when it came out and it seemed a bit rushed- but Leica did iron the problems out... who remember these days about the green line ? the streaks ? nobody and it doesnt happen.. the lockups ? M8 is a good and capable camera and if you dont need high ISO's, a very viable alternative for the M9 - if you dont need the MP. Strongly disagree, the M8 is a great camera with very few problems from my point of view. I would happily recommend it to anyone & with the current 2nd hand prices it is a very good deal. If you have a high iso and full frame fixation then the M9 is essential but for 99.8% of the time the M8 is very^2 close. Touché !

Steve Ash Posted November 1, 2010 Share #63 Posted November 1, 2010 I found Kamber's "Test" rather worthless and not worth mentioning. The only issue he was right on was the high iso performance. But as many have shown if you get to know your camera you learn to deal with it. I was very surprised to see he praising the M9 recently as most of the "issues" he was complaining about should be still valid like buttons at the back, battery and card behind baseplate. So as I see it he did not even try to get familiar to the M8 and use it within its limitations. His whole approach was very unprofessional and I feel he only grabbed for attention. tobey bilek Posted November 3, 2010 Share #64 Posted November 3, 2010 Buy the M9 if it meets your needs. If not wait for something that may never come. My guess is video is not even thought of so it will be a long wait. I consider the M9 the best small camera image wise that is out there if you do not have telephoto needs or require very high ISO. It will be hard to improve significantly for my photography. I have not purchased for other reasons. You can always buy a small digicam.
NZDavid Posted November 3, 2010 Share #65 Posted November 3, 2010 ...I didn't say M2 is like M8, maybe M2 will be more like M10, an improvement over the game changer(M9) I see a lot of Nikon and Canon guys who are buying M9, not because they are in love with Leica brand, but just because there's no equal for M9 in the bazaar. They weren’t interested in M8 That’s why i call it a game changer, i hope we both agree that while M2 is an improvement over M3 its hardly a game changer, its evolution of the revolution That’s why i say making M10 better than M9 is a hard job for Leica, M9 is the revolution, evolution of it will led to a better camera, not a game changer... ... Only the first Leica was revolutionary. All others have been evolutionary. And a good thing, too. In the M series, the M3 was already a perfect tool for its purpose. Digital is not yet perfected. For me, improvements in reliability, robustness, and ever-improving technical performance and image quality are to be preferred over simply tacking on more gimmicky features. ns_ng Posted November 6, 2010 Share #66 Posted November 6, 2010 then time flew by, and before i realized it, the m9 was here, and it did everything the m8 wouldn't. What are the things you are looking for in the M9 that are not in the M8? OK, the M9 is ff, does not require UV/IR cut filter, slightly better DR and noise performance at higher ISO. With these improvements, are you suddenly able to take better photos? The M8 is still a capable tool in the hands of a knowledgeable photographer. Even though I have tested the M9, the M8 still serves me well. Many photographers are still using the M8 with great results.
