In the last days I was reading some posting about the M8 and sharpness with or without filter. The hypothesis that the M8 is sharper with an ir cut filter was repeated more often. Is that right? Personally I can not find any difference if I work with or without filter... If yes, whats the technical cause for that. best regards will

dpattinson Posted September 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2010 Good Morning! In the last days I was reading some posting about the M8 and sharpness with or without filter. If yes, whats the technical cause for that. best regards will The technical explanation is that IR light focuses in a slightly different plane to visible light - and so you would get some blurring due to defocused IR light. I noticed that B&W output without IR filter seemed to have less resolution of fine detail - but I never tested it 'scientifically'
pop Posted September 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2010 If it is not only an IR cut filter but an UV one as well, then there ought to be a difference in some landscape shots. UV can add some haze to landscapes because it is scattered by the atmosphere.
