Hansdampf Posted September 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there anybody out there knowing a camera shop in Abu Dhabi selling Leicas? I'm looking for a X1.
Advertisement Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Hi Hansdampf, Take a look here Abu Dhabi. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Fotofanatiker Posted September 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2010 I think the "official" shop for the Emirates is at Wafi City here in Dubai - but don't expect too much, when I asked last year they were not able to get any M9 or anything else, the only thing I ever got there was an external viewfinder for my 24mm SX... R9user Posted September 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2010 There is a store in the Abu Dhabi Mall - department store on the first floor in the corner - I forget the name but if memory serves me right to the left when you enter the mall from the main entrance one floor up - about diagonally across the Apple Mac store. (I know this is vague) Not sure if this helps. The prices are not so good though - comparable to South African prices which is a rip-off. You will do better in the UK (if you consider your VAT return) or Hong Kong which I found to be the most competitive - Try Kinefoto on Hong Kong Island or Tim Tsui? (2 stores) in Kowloon It was worth while for me to fly there and buy my M9.
Hansdampf Posted September 28, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 28, 2010 Thanks for the informations, looks like its not the best place to buy a leica.
therefromhere Posted September 29, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2010 I'm an on-again/off-again resident in Dubai. The Leica dealer and importers are really bad options: prices tend to range with a 15-25% markup. You'll end up with a sales-person who has never owned anything other than a point-and-shoot. They cannot talk intelligently about warranty or simple servicing. They tend to refuse to let you take their stuff for a spin (even in the shop). In short, they aim to sell to (incredibly wealthy) tourists who will probably never return. What I recommend: Leica Mayfair/London, Photografika in Copenhagen and many other quality dealers will sell w/o VAT and ship to you in the UAE. You will pay a 5% duty on the "printed invoice value" (wink wink). You get better service (although from far away) and often much better prices than they can offer in Europe. gennfiks Posted October 4, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2010 It is correct about Abu Dhabi Mall, but they don't have X1, but yes I saw D1! And it was very expensive. In general for other cameras, in the UAE they don't sell the latest and best components and accessories. Regards.
Fotofanatiker Posted October 4, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Went to Wafi yesterday just for fun (and because I need some lenses in the near future) - as expected no lens (except one SX24, but that's the one I have anyway...), but they have a X1 on display... In case someone needs one urgently...:-)
