Photoskeptic Posted January 10, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I apologise if this has come up before. I downloaded the SilverFast Ai demo and must say I'm quite impressed with the output. FYI, I have a Minolta 5400. The problem is scanning speed. After buying a new computer the 5400 ripped off scans in less than two minutes. The SilverFast doesn't seem to live up to the "fast" in its name, scanning at a snails pace. Should I expect a faster scan if I purchase the software? Even my old computer was faster than the SilverFast.
Advertisement Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Hi Photoskeptic, Take a look here SilverFast demo question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoskeptic Posted January 10, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted January 10, 2007 Since I posted this I've heard from SilverFast and yes, their answer was the software is slow. I suppose the results are worth it. I don't believe re-scanning all my good negatives and chromes is going to be much fun, however...
robsteve Posted January 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 10, 2007 John: I just started using Silverfast 6.5 and it is doing an excellent job. I had some calibration slides from coloraide.de and they really made a difference in the scans. Cheap IT 8.7 (ISO 12641) Scanner Color Calibration Targets I think it is the S1 kit I have. With a few simple steps silverfast will calibrate itself to your scanner using one of these test slides. If you get the CD version of silverfast rather than the download, it will come with one test slide to calibrate your scanner. For best results, you need test slides for each type of film you might be scanning. I have set up profiles for the Ektachrome, Provia and Agfa slide films.
