matlep Posted September 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a problem with my Summliux 50 ASPH on my M9. On distances longer than about 1.2-1.5 meters it gives me significant back focus. On 1.4 at close distance it is pretty much spot on. But on 5.6 on say 5 meters it gives me 2-3 meters back focus. I have compared it to my Summicron 50 and it gives me good results on both close and far distances. So my question is, is it the rangefinder in the camera or is it the lens? Do they both go in on adjustment or just the lens? If both, will all my other lenses get screwed up? My Summicron 35 and Summarit 75 works fine. At least what i can make out anyways. Any input on this? The main thing wich is my concern is that the Summilux worked very well on my M8. At least what i can work out. Sometimes it feels like the hihger resolution of the M9 makes the lenses perform worse, just because you can really pixelpeep a lot more.

Ecar Posted September 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2010 But on 5.6 on say 5 meters it gives me 2-3 meters back focus. This is a lot. If your other lenses are OK, then the Lux needs adjustment, not the rangefinder. Did you knock it recently? With so much backfocus, you would have noticed it on the M8 as well, irrespective of the difference in sensor resolution...

I tried looking through my old archive with the M8, but from what i can see, the loo allright. Maybe it has gotten a beating without my knowledge. Not the best image example, but still. I think its clearly visible. Red ring indicates focus, both lenses at F/2.
Ecar Posted September 13, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2010 I see... I'd just send the lens for adjustment to factory standards.
sblutter Posted September 13, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2010 So sorry for your troubles! I just now got mine. Initial tests were pretty close and are spot on. I read your post and did tests further away, 3 & 5 meters - also spot on @ 1.4. Whew for me, boohoo for you. I'd also send it in - its an exciting lens and you deserve to have it 100% functional
