cliffp Posted September 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been trying to import photos from an SD card (M9 generated saved as DNG + Jpeg) using the camera connection kit. I select the photos I want to import but the Ipad crashes after a few photos have been imported. Has anyone else had this problem?

sanyasi Posted September 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2010 Yes, except that I can't get any photos to import. No solution yet. Jack Siegel September 9, 2010
cfritze Posted September 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2010 It's working for me. Did you try - formatting the SD card freshly in the camera, taking a few images, then try? - fully poweroff and reset the ipad? (hold down the power switch on top of the unit until it asks you to confirm power off) Hope i'm not stating the obvious there. I did have some trouble once with lightroom importing from the ipad. When I connected my ipad to my laptop (Windows), I saw in the main directory that windows was having trouble reading one photo file - X through it, no thumbnail. Deleting that image resolved the problem. Christian
cliffp Posted September 10, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 10, 2010 Thanks for the suggestions. I tried formatting the card and this time it worked. Let's hope it's the end of the problem.
pleeson Posted September 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2010 Works as described for me, the only quirk is I found that one needs to have the iPad on before inserting the SD adapter; otherwise I locked it up and had to reset.
newtoleica Posted September 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 11, 2010 Finding this useless. .......... Photo app crashes continually when loading pictures, reset iPad, formatted cards (sandisk extreme and ultras ). All no help.

Oz_Hillbilly Posted September 13, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2010 I find that if I scroll through the pics before I try to import, then it will almost certainly crash. If I simply import all after I have inserted the card, it rarely crashes. I assume it has to do with overloading the cache by generating additional thumbnails while scrolling through images? sanyasi Posted September 13, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 13, 2010 Problem Solved for my M9. For the first time, I reformatted the SD card (Overwrite) rather than the faster "Yes" erase in the Leica menu system. I was able to import 666 files in about 20 minutes. Half were dng and the other half were the highest resolution jpeg files that the M9 can produce. What I will be interested to test is whether I need to do another reformat (overwrite) using the same card or whether I can just erase using "Yes." I have been just popping the SanDisk SD cards in the camera out of the packaging without doing any formatting of the card. I was using Sandisk 16GB ultra card. sanyasi Posted September 19, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2010 As noted above, selecting "Overwrite" rather than "Yes" when formatting the card solved my iPad import problem. I have since erased the photos from the last session by selecting "Yes" rather than "Overwrite," and have been able to import those photos into the iPad. So it appears that you only need to do a complete overwrite once to be able to import to the iPad. Jack Siegel September 18, 2009

Jack Siegel September 18, 2009 thanks but this hasn't solved my problem. formatted a Sandisk extreme 16 GB using overwrite. Shot 300 images on it, crashes repeatedly after loading a around 8 each time. I'm booking a slot at the London Apple store at the weekend............. sanyasi Posted September 20, 2010 Share #12 Posted September 20, 2010 When they give you a solution, please post it. Who knows when I will have a problem again. Thanks Jack Siegel September 18, 2010
